The
Maryland Chapter of NAIOP is announcing the Development
Awards 2008 Call for Entries. This competition will award
excellence in building development by evaluating all facets
of the project including, but not limited to, building design,
lobby design, landscaping, leasing and site plans. All projects
must be located in counties specified in the guidelines.

Below
is information which will answer most of your questions
for this award competition. Reviewing this information will
assist you in better understanding the process of the criteria
by which award winners are selected.
The
entry fee is $250 for the first project entered and $200
for each additional project entered. Only those companies
with an active NAIOP member may enter the competition.
Make
copies of the entry form and complete a separate form for
each entry and be sure to include the appropriate entry
fee. The deadline for entries is the end of the business
day on December 14, 2007. The judging will take place
in January-February 2008.
The
awards banquet will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2008,
at the M&T Bank Pavilion at the Hippodrome.

Guidelines
I.
ELIGIBILITY
1.
Membership
Each organization with an active NAIOP-MD member
is eligible to enter unlimited categories, as long as
the entry form and fee are turned in by the deadline of
November 30, 2007.
2. Age of Project
All newly developed and renovation entries must have a
certificate of occupancy by December 31, 2007 and have
not been previously submitted.
3.
Entry Fee
There is a non-refundable entry fee of $250 for the first
entry. Additional entries will be $200 each. Entries submitted
without this fee will not be accepted until the fee is
received. Choose one category for each entry. Each additional
entry will be subject to the same fee structure stated
above.
4.
Project Location
All entries must be located in Anne Arundel County, Baltimore
County, Baltimore City, Carroll County, Cecil County,
Harford County, Howard County, Frederick City, and Frederick
County.
II.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
1.
Marketing Materials - Include any and all marketing materials
relating to the subject property in accordance with the
submission guidelines. Please note the marketing materials
will not be returned.
2.
Review the Category List and choose the appropriate category
for your property.
3.
Download the appropriate submission form:
a. Form
1 is for Categories 1-22
b. Form
2 is for Categories 23-27
4.
Copy your submission form onto two (2) clearly labeled
CD's (Label with name of project, category and submitted
by).

5.
Add all appropriate photos to the CD (no larger than 1MB
for each photo); JPEGS only.
6.
Scan any marketing materials or additional information
(flyers, brochures, floor plans, space plans, elevations,
renderings and site plans, etc.) and add these files to
the CD.
7.
Submit the CD(s) and a check made to:

Notes
- The
selection committee will tour all submitted properties
in January/February 2008.
- All
marketing materials submitted may be used in preparing
the Awards Ceremony Presentation. Any submissions not
adhering to these guidelines may be disqualified.
Award
Categories
OFFICE
1.
Build to Suit (Less than 50,000/SF)
Office space built to tenant's specifications. An example
is the 2006 winner 4685 Millennium Drive.
2. Build to Suit (50,000/SF and
above)
Office space built to tenant's specifications. An example
is the 2006 winner, Oceaneering Advanced Technologies Group.
3. Office Single Story
Single story building used exclusively for office space.
An example is the 2006 winner, Schilling Circle.
4. Office Mid Rise/Low Rise (2-6
stories)
Property 2-6 stories used exclusively for office space.
Examples are the 2006 winners Office Mid-Rise, Maple Lawn
Maryland; Low-Rise.
5. Office Hi Rise (7 stories and above)
Property 7 stories and above used exclusively for office
space. An example is the 2006 winner, 500 East Pratt Street.
6.
Rehab
Rehabilitated office property. Examples are the 2006 winners,
307 International Circle & Schilling Place at Hunt Valley.
7. Best Interior - Public/Common
Area
Examples are the 2006 winners, 500 East Pratt Street &
Parkway Corporate Center.
8. Best Exterior - Public/Common
Area
An example is the 2004 winner, Liberty Place.
9. Best Office Park
An example is the 2006 winner, Liberty Place at Columbia
Crossing.
INDUSTRIAL
10. Flex
One Story Building. An example is the 2004 winner, Gateway
67.
11.
Build to Suit
Industrial space built to tenants' specifications. An example
is the 2006 winner, Baltimore Aircoil Company World Headquarters.
12.
Speculative Warehouse
An example is the 2006 winner, Meadowridge Distribution
Center-Parcel N.
13.
Rehab
Industrial property that has been rehabilitated and is same
as original use. An example is the 2006 winner, Gateway
at Riverside.
14.
Best Exterior - Public/Common Area
Exterior public or common space of any commercial property.
An example is the 2006 winner, Maple Lawn Maryland.
15.
Best Industrial Park
An
example is the 2006 winner, Arundel Business Park (Preston
Gateway Corporate Park).
RETAIL
16.
Rehab
Retail property that has been rehabilitated and is the same
as original use. An
example is the 2004 winner, Belvedere Square.
17.
New
New retail construction within the specified period (January
1, 2006 - December 31, 2007). An example would be the 2006
winner, Lockwood Place & The Shops at Monocacy.
MISCELLANEOUS
18.
Historical Renovation
Any renovated property of historical significance.
19.
Adaptive Reuse
Any building that has been renovated and its current use
differs from its original use. An example is the 2006 winner,
Blind Industries & Services of Maryland.
20.
Mixed Use
Project
must have retail, entertainment, flex and office components.
Examples are the 2004 winners Brookside Commons & Parcel
C.
21.
Environmentally Friendly - Green Buildings
Any building that includes environmentally friendly technology
- Does not have to be LEED Certified. An example is the
2006 winners, NBP 318 & Harford County Public Schools
Administrative Office Building.
22.
Marketing Materials/Package
Any marketing piece or package to promote a service, company
or product. Examples include: magazines, brochures, annual
reports, direct mail, newsletters or any special-purpose
publication.
TRANSACTIONS
23.
Most Creative Office
Examples are the 2002 winners, Bookham Technologies &
Comcast at Corporate Place.
24.
Most Creative Industrial
An example is the 2006 winner, Verizon Wireless-Cabot Commerce
Center at BWI.
25.
Most Creative Retail
An example is the 2002 winner, Wal Mart & Sam's Club
Port Covington.
