“The NAIOP Awards of Excellence program is held every other year to celebrate and recognize the innovative achievements of regional commercial real estate developers, as well as companies and individuals that service our industry in the Maryland region,” stated Robert Bavar, President of NAIOP-MD and Vice President of Bavar Properties Group. “Each winner represents a compelling example of how a unique challenge was overcome to realize a result that was economically, environmentally and aesthetically feasible. To reflect the overall movement in our industry to develop projects in an environmentally-friendly manner, a number of new categories were introduced this year with a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design LEED focus,” he added.
Lifetime Achievement Award winner David Bavar, president of Bavar Properties Group, has spent nearly 50 years in the real estate industry. He began his career at Manekin before becoming one of the founding partners of KLNB the “B” standing for Bavar. Bavar Properties Group is a family-owned firm with a portfolio of more than three million square feet of space throughout Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Florida. The company has built a reputation for quality and integrity through the careful use of its own resources and a long-term ownership perspective.
Greg Masi, who worked with a number of local real estate organizations including Manekin, was honored posthumously with the inaugural Greg Masi Volunteer Award. “Greg selflessly and generously donated his time and energy to many different NAIOP-Maryland committees and efforts, but had a particular attraction and interest in this awards competition.
