NAIOP Maryland captured the national Communications Award in the “Large Chapter Size” category, which was accepted by (left to right), Brendan Gill, President, NAIOP Maryland; Tim O’Ferrall, NAIOP Maryland Executive Director; Kate Sanft, NAIOP Maryland Associate Director, and Vince Bagli, Jr., NAIOP Maryland President-Elect.

The Communication Tool Award was based on the Chapter’s use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping to analyze a diverse data set and express the results in maps that made it easy for Maryland legislators to quickly visualize the negative implications of a bill many of them had co-sponsored. The clarity of the maps played a significant role in the defeat of the bill and reinforced NAIOP Maryland’s commitment to the use of GIS mapping as a compelling lobbying tool. NAIOP Maryland was among the most decorated Chapters at this year’s annual awards program with James F. Knott, Jr. honored as “Chapter President of the Year,” as well as winning a Merit Award for its Community Service program.
