NAIOP Maryland captured 2014 Merit Awards for best “Legislative and Government Affairs” program for medium-sized chapters, and “Outstanding Contribution by a Chapter Executive” at the recent National NAIOP Chapter Leadership and Legislative Retreat, held recently in Washington, D.C. NAIOP Maryland was honored as the “Chapter of the Year” at the 2013 ceremony.

The annual awards program is open to all 51 NAIOP chapters around the country, with the winners selected by a national team of judges that examine programs and strategies contributing to the overall success of the particular chapter.

A significant component of NAIOP Maryland’s “Legislative and Government Affairs” award submission was the passage of legislation written and sponsored by the Chapter that restructures and reduces how recordation tax applies to indemnity deeds of trust (IDOT) in the State of Maryland. In addition, The O’Ferrall Group was cited for “Outstanding Contribution by a Chapter Executive” for its leadership role in elevating all sections of NAIOP Maryland, including achieving the highest membership level in its history. Only one winner was selected in this latter award category from among all chapters nationally.

“It is extremely gratifying to be recognized for these awards as judged by our peers from around the country, as they provide additional validation that there exists no better organization in Maryland focusing on the commercial real estate sector from an educational, networking and legislation standpoint,” explained James Knott, Jr. President of NAIOP Maryland. “Our chapter made important and meaningful strides last year to improve the commercial real estate environment for both members and non-members, and this recognition reflects the outstanding teamwork and cooperation that permeates throughout NAIOP Maryland.”
