The Under Armour Flagship Brand House is nothing short of extraordinary.

Positioned on the ground floor of Under Armour’s signature mass timber headquarters in Baltimore Peninsula, the 24,000 square foot, state of the art retail environment was designed to epitomize the Under Armour brand and serve as an anchor for the community and a catalyst for local investment.

Its design includes high ceilings, custom light boxes, exposed mass timber structural elements, a feature wall showcasing helmets from local and national teams, and polished plaster walls that required multiple, hand-applied coats.

“The space features custom millwork, carefully crafted and wrapped in a combination of black finishes and steel accents,” said Tom Rizza, Senior Project Manager at Buch Construction. “The sensitivity of the blackened steel finish, combined with the methodical process required to wrap the millwork, required extensive planning and precision to execute successfully. Close collaboration among the steel manufacturer, custom steel fabricator and millwork shop was essential.”

Intense collaboration among all members of the project team proved critical to meeting both design standards and the project’s unmovable timeline.

“Over a fast-tracked, six-month schedule, Buch logged more than 14,000 on-site hours alongside 15 trade partners,” Rizza said.

Working around crews that were completing the headquarters building, team members managed changeable schedules and rapidly addressed any onsite issues.

“Instead of treating changes as delays, Buch leaned heavily into our partnership with all the partners by increasing the frequency of trade meetings and BIM coordination sessions so decisions could be made and implemented immediately,” he said.
